Ask Bruce – Spring 2014

Q: How do I know whether I should repair or replace my central air conditioner?

A: If the repair involves replacing major expensive parts, your system is at least 15 years old and your summer electric bills are higher than in the past, investing in a new system is usually the better choice. If your system is less than 15 years old you can avoid expensive repairs and keep it running efficiently with our Air Conditioning Comfort Plan.

Q: How much can I expect to save with a new system?

A: On average, people save about 30% on their annual cooling bills with a new system. You may find your replacement system could easily pay for itself with the money you’ll save on electricity, not to mention repair bills. A new system also helps you avoid the rising cost of Freon, which is being phased out and no longer is used in new air conditioning systems.
