Your central air conditioning system can last 15 years or so, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) – but only if it is well maintained.
The good news is that one of the best things to do to keep it running well is also one of the easiest: check your air filter once a month during the cooling season, and change or clean it (depending on the model) when it’s dirty.
So here we are nearing the halfway point of summer 2018, and answer honestly: have you checked your filter since summer began? (Don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone).
A blocked air filter makes your cooling system work too hard to keep you cool; that overwork can cause some real problems for you now and later, including:
Changing an air filter is easy to do – just refer to your unit’s owner’s manual for instructions (if you’re having a problem, let us know – we can walk you through it). Filters are relatively inexpensive, too – certainly a lot less expensive than shelling out more money for cooling bills month after month or paying for an unnecessary A/C repair down the road.
Keep in mind that our technicians replace your air conditioner air filters (and perform many other critical maintenance tasks and tests) as part of the tune-up that’s included in your Burt’s Reliable Air Conditioning Comfort Plan.
If you haven’t had your 2018 tune-up yet, do it soon – before you have that perfectly timed mid-summer A/C breakdown!
